MBS Media Campus

MBS Media Campus (formerly Manhattan Beach Studios) features a collection of some of the largest and most well-equipped sound stages, accompanied by comprehensive production resources, rentals, onsite post facilities and personalized service. They also promote green living and have an ongoing commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices to reduce their overall environmental footprint.

The 22-acre facility boasts cutting edge technology and amenities. The 16 sound stages include five 25,000-square-foot stages, nine 18,000-square-foot stages, and a New York street backdrop with various two-story storefronts, brownstones with fire escapes, all complete with sidewalks & street lamps. The lot is fiber-optically equipped and all stages have been audience rated for television production. The new stages were designed and built to optimize production convenience and efficiency. Most have contiguous access to their corresponding producer’s offices, production support space, and stars’ dressing rooms. The studio also offers post-production services and numerous onsite amenities, including a masseuse, dermatologist, auto detailing, Urban Beach Café, and additional VIP services upon request (i.e. helicopter transport!).

Some of the productions filmed here include TV shows Ally McBeal, The Practice, Boston Public, The O.C., Boston Legal, CSI: Miami, Medium, 90210, America’s Funniest Home Videos, and Revenge. The studio is also home to Marvel Studios and has been the base for the filming of the 2010 hit Iron Man 2, much of 2011’s Thor, and 2012’s Captain America and The Avengers. Additional movies shot here include much of The Haunting, as well as scenes from the films Pirates of the Caribbean, Daredevil, Starship Troopers, Almost Famous, The Hot Chick and Panic Room.

In 2011, it was announced that the two sequels to Avatar (the highest-grossing film of all time) will be filmed at Manhattan Studios, as James Cameron’s company, Lightstorm Entertainment, moves its production operations to Manhattan Beach. They signed a 5-year lease to take over two big soundstages, totaling 115,000 square feet.
