Trump National Golf Club is a public golf club in Rancho Palos Verdes featuring a 7,242-yard course and a 45,000 sq ft clubhouse. The club is known for its picturesque views of the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island and is the only ocean-front golf course in LA County.
Formerly known as Ocean Trails Golf Club, Trump National Golf Club is an 18–hole course designed by Pete Dye, which was nearly complete and about to open when a landslide occurred and the 18th hole slid toward the Pacific Ocean. The Ocean Trails Golf Club subsequently went into bankruptcy and on November 26, 2002, Donald Trump bought the 300-acre property, including the golf course, for $27 million with the intention of finalizing construction and repairs. Trump subsequently paid $264 million to complete the project, making Trump National Golf Club the most expensive golf course ever constructed. On January 20, 2006, the 18-hole Trump National Golf Club opened in Los Angeles.
This course has been ranked among the Top 100 Courses You Can Play by Golf Magazine and the Michael Douglas Pro-Celebrity and Friends Golf Tournament takes place there annually in April.
The Club offers two dining facilities, the upscale Café Pacific and the more casual Golfer’s Lounge.
Adjacent to the golf course is Ocean Trails Ecological Reserve which consists of about 4+ miles of hiking trails and natural habitat. Lined with coastal sage scrub, cacti and other native vegetation, these trails wind along the cliff side with various paths also leading down to the rocky shore and tide pools below. There are a number of different trails to explore depending on how much ground you want to cover.
The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy hosts nature walks throughout Palos Verdes. Check our South Bay Events Calendar for upcoming events at Trump National Golf Club and various hikes in this area.
