No Dogs in California State Parks http://bestofthesouthbay.com/no-dogs-in-california-state-parks http://bestofthesouthbay.com/no-dogs-in-california-state-parks#comments Sat, 11 Feb 2012 21:07:35 +0000 Lee Williams http://bestofthesouthbay.com/?p=1210

If a park has the word “State” in the name, you and almost guarantee that dogs are not allowed.  Although some parks will allow Spot in picnic areas and parking lots.

According to California State Park Ranger Ken Low, the pet prohibition is to protect the parks’ natural habitat.

“Dogs will affect wildlife patterns; they leave behind a scent that will deter some animals,’ Low said. “And dogs can carry diseases such as parvo that can transfer to coyotes”.

Dogs are also prohibited in Channel Islands National Park, King Gillette Ranch, and most Los Angeles County Beaches.

If you bring your dog to a restricted area, be prepared to pay a fine, starting at $75.
