Known as the Battleship of Presidents, the Battleship USS Iowa is the West Coast’s only battleship museum. Come aboard for a unique experience that takes you on a memorable journey through World War II, the Korean War, and the Cold War as you follow in the footsteps of thousands of sailors that lived on this city at sea. Visitors get to tour six decks and numerous exhibits on this Battleship that hosted three U.S. Presidents during her service of over three decades.
Battleship IOWA is an international symbol of freedom and diplomacy. She was launched more than 75 years ago to defend the American ideals of independence, justice and liberty. Forged in war but a guardian of peace, IOWA now proudly stands guard at the Los Angeles Waterfront.
Alfa Romeo Tango
In less than six years, since sailing into the Los Angeles Waterfront, the USS Iowa has become one of Los Angeles’ top attractions (TripAdvisor’s “Top 5 Museums”), competing with movie studios tours, animation parks, and Southern California outdoor activities. The history-laden vessel is now diversifying into a cultural entity with a new art gallery! Alfa Romeo Tango is possibly the first fine arts gallery aboard a battleship. The first exhibit in this new space has been curated by celebrated Los Angeles-based artist Ben Jackel, represented by the highly regarded L.A.Louver, which also represent artists such as Dale Chihuly and David Hockney. Jackel’s exhibition, opening Saturday, November 17, 2018, and running through Sunday, March 17, 2019, is titled USS Indianapolis and other Tales from the Sea. Jackel will also be curating future shows for the space.
