Banning’s Landing Community Center

The imprint of Phineas Banning on the community of Wilmington is still visible today. Known as the “Father of Los Angeles Harbor,” his vision and love for the the Harbor Area is recognized in the many Banning landmarks and sites throughout Wilmington.

In 1996, the Port of Los Angeles built the distinctively designed, 10,000-square-foot Banning’s Landing Community Center as a “window on the water.” The building’s unique structure is shaped like a ship. Nonprofit organization Friends of Banning’s Landing operates the center, which is used to stimulate and support cultural activities. The facility is promoted as a regional resource for the expression and education of cultural traditions and community pride through sponsorship of the arts.
