Point Vicente Lighthouse & Interpretive Center

On the 2nd Saturday of each month (except in April when it is opened on the first Saturday to coincide with Rancho Palos Verdes’ Whale of a Day Festival), the Point Vicente Lighthouse is opened to the public from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Constructed in 1926, Point Vicente is a cylindrical style lighthouse and is home to a third order Fresnel Lens which is still an active aid to navigation.
While visiting the lighthouse, you should also stop by the nearby Point Vicente Interpretive Center, a 10,000 square foot center which focuses on the unique natural features and history of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The Interpretive Center includes a museum, theater and changing exhibits. Museum admission is FREE and open daily from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
December through mid-May is an especially great time to visit Point Vicente as the annual gray whale migration can be seen from the Center’s 150 seat outdoor amphitheater, a leading whale watching site in the South Bay.
